ð About Internet Access This file contains late-breaking news about the new Internet Access software that comes with your Mac OS. Setting up Internet Access outside the United States and Canada If your country does not support using the Internet Setup Assistant to register with an Internet service provider (ISP), you will need to set up an account with an ISP provider before using the Internet Setup Assistant. Auto-dial and auto-disconnect settings Your computer is set to dial your Internet service provider automatically when an application that requires an Internet connection is used, and disconnect after 10 minutes of network inactivity. You can change these settings in the Remote Access control panel (under options). TCP/IP connection options Ethernet If you plan to use an Ethernet card that you've installed in your computer to connect to the Internet, you need to make sure the card is selected in the "Connect via" pop-up menu in the TCP/IP control panel. For instructions on setting up TCP/IP, see Mac Help. MacIP Internet Access supports MacIP configurations that use dynamic (server-based) addressing, such as the MacIP configuration used for Apple Remote Access. It does not support MacIP configurations that use static IP addresses. Configuration names Internet Access requires that you limit the length of your account names to 32 characters. Web browser Considerations It may be necessary to increase the memory of the Netscape Communicator or Internet Explorer browser to support the memory requirements needed to use the QuickTime and Shockwave plug-ins. Follow the instructions in Mac Help for adjusting memory usage. Note: If you are only using QuickTime plug ins, increase your browser's memory requirements by 1000k; if you are only using Shockwave plug ins, increase the amount by 3000k; if you are using both QuickTime and Shockwave plug ins, increase the amount by 4000k. © 2000 Apple Computer, Inc.
